“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”

The site of @Four Cousins Restaurant and Tasting Room is a landmark in Roberson, the first space you see upon entering Robertson. A challenging site, it sits below the flood plain and it is situated next to Main Road. The only real strength was its beautifully matured trees.

Honouring Robertson’s local history and architecture of the area, the building is a contemporary interpretation of Cape Vernacular.

The floor plan consists of three barn structures running from east to west, optimising the natural sunlight. Another site response was turning one of the barns towards Main Road to showcase the activities to passers-by. This, in turn, allowed for the creation of a courtyard between the buildings that is well protected from street noise.
